Meet Boris Peirek

Meet Boris Peirek
Together with FC Sheriff head coach Goran Sablic, his fellow countrymen work here too. One of them is fitness trainer Boris Peirek. After graduating from the University of Split, faculty of kinesiology, in 1995, Boris was invited to Hajduk Split, where he worked with junior teams. In 2001, he joined the first team and won with them the title of Croatia in three seasons. From 2007 to 2011, he worked with Dynamo Kyiv, where he learned to speak perfect Russian. After work in Dynamo, in 2011 the Croatian expert returned to Hajduk Split and in 2015 received another invitation to Dynamo Kyiv headed at the time by Serghei Rebrov. Having worked three years, Boris decided to join Goran Sablic’s coaching staff in FC Sheriff.

Boris Peirek shares why he has chosen football, tells about his sports career and his goals in the Yellow-Black’s squad.

Boris, you hold a master’s degree in kinesiology. Tell us please about this discipline.
This discipline covers almost all practical and theoretic knowledge from physiology, anatomy, and biomechanics, which are connected to different kinds of sport. When I was in my fourth year of study, I chose football as my specialization and since then I’ve been working in this field.

Players’ post-injury rehabilitation is also your duty?
Yes, it’s one of the most important directions in our job. Injured players’ rehabilitation is a step-by-step process which is very difficult. First, we need to understand the injury specifics and diagnosis and then take all necessary medical measures and sports activities.

Can you say as a fitness coach how much important is physical condition of players in football?
Today, players’ physical condition in football is of crucial importance. In most countries, games are played at a high tempo which involves corresponding physical fitness. Much attention is paid to the players’ post-match rehabilitation, training process, nutrition and measures on injury prevention.

You were into judo, why you decided to make your career in football?
I have lots of friends –football players, who began playing when we were students. After graduation, I had no doubts about choosing sports.

Could you tell us how did you get to know Goran Sablic?
I met Goran in Hajduk when he played in a youth team. I couldn’t even imagine I would work in his coaching staff. We worked together on his post-injury rehabilitation in his football career so I’ve known him for years.

Since when you’ve been working together?
As one coaching staff, we debuted in FC Sheriff.

What do you think about FC Sheriff infrastructure?
Well, it’s at the top – I’m at a loss of words to describe it.

What does it mean for you to be a part of the Yellow-Blacks’ family?
For me, it’s important to achieve high results together with the team. I had several offers but I prefer to work with clubs that always contest for the Champions title. That’s why my choice was FC Sheriff and I’m glad to be a part of it.
